What air compressor do I need to run the CUT55 MP?+

Minimum 60 PSI at 4–5 CFM of clean, dry air. We recommend a 90 PSI+ compressor with at least a 20-gallon tank for sustained cutting. Oil-free is preferred — if your compressor is oil-lubricated, install the included air filter to keep oil mist out of the torch and protect consumable life.

How thick can it cut on 110V vs. 240V?+

On 240V: clean cut up to 18mm (11/16″), severance up to 26mm (1″). On 110V: clean cut drops to about 10mm (3/8″), severance to about 14mm (9/16″). For steel thicker than 3/8″, use 240V for the best cut quality and to protect the machine.

What does “Non‑HF” mean, and why does it matter?+

HF cutters use a high-voltage spark to start the arc, which can interfere with computers, CNC controllers, vehicle ECUs, and solar inverters. The CUT55 MP uses a Non‑HF blow-back start instead — air pressure retracts the electrode to strike the arc, with zero RF interference. Ideal for auto shops or anywhere sensitive electronics are nearby.

What consumables does it use — are they compatible with my other torches?+

It uses IPT60 torch consumables (electrodes, nozzles, swirl rings, shields). These are not compatible with the AG60 consumables used on the CUT55 Prolux or CUT55 Pro — don’t mix them. IPT60 parts run more heat-resistant and durable than the IPT40 series.

What do the PA and PT settings do?+

PA (Pilot Arc Delay) sets how long the pilot arc runs before transferring to the main cutting arc — adjustable 2–10 seconds; use a longer delay on rusty, painted, or coated metal. PT (Post-Arc Time) keeps air flowing after you release the trigger to cool the torch. Setting PT to 1–3 seconds extends consumable life and prevents tip burn-back.

What is Plasma Gouging, and when would I use it?+

Gouging uses a wider nozzle and angle to remove metal rather than cut through it — carving a groove for weld removal, stripping rusted layers, or back-gouging joint edges. It’s faster and cleaner than angle grinding. Switch to gouging mode on the LED display and use gouging consumables (sold separately).

Can I use this on a standard 110V household outlet?+

Yes — it’s dual voltage and ships with a 240V-to-120V adapter, running on a standard 20-amp outlet. Cutting performance is reduced to about 3/8″ clean cut, which is fine for home or light-repair use. For production cutting of heavier steel, use a 240V outlet for full 55A output.

Is it CNC table compatible?+

No — the CUT55 MP has no machine torch port and is designed for hand-held cutting only. For CNC work you’ll need a cutter with a machine torch interface and a CNC-compatible straight torch with a trigger relay connection.

How does the app work, and what can I control remotely?+

Download the Arccaptain app, power on the CUT55 MP, and enable Bluetooth pairing in settings. Once connected, adjust amperage, set PA/PT delay times, switch between cutting modes, and monitor air pressure in real time — all without lifting your helmet. Compatible with iOS 12+ and Android 8.0+, with roughly 30 feet of open-air Bluetooth range.

What’s the warranty, and what does it actually cover?+

3 years, covering manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. If the unit fails due to a defect within that period, Arccaptain will repair or replace the affected parts or the unit itself.

The CUT55MP is impressive, I was very surprised. First job I put it on was cutting welds. Someone had gobbed old grader blades on a dirt pan cutting edge support. Am having some issues with the replacement IPT60- 23 piece consumables but, customer service is working on getting it worked out.

I am impressed- I have used several different plasma cutter over the years- but never anything this cheap, or with these mode options. This was just delivered today, I unboxed it and thought I must have gotten the wrong model because it’s so small in size.

he 55MP right out of the box had the air fitting on it, cutting in minutes. Scrap 3/8” first, right to 5/8”plate that cut really clean. Mesh cutting mode through expanded as advertised, rust removal works also. I did cut a little bit with the 120v adapter that’s included through 11g, it does work, but don’t expect to cut 3/8 material. 240v rips really good.
